Dr. D'Ari is a psychologist licensed in both Virginia and DC, with over 23 years working primarily with families and couples. Her research and clinical experience has been with early adolescence through young adulthood. In addition to working with these families, she has training and experience working with individuals and families who have experienced trauma and loss. Dr. D'Ari's practice is with an experienced group of therapists who consult and collaborative together to help families.  Her primary focus is couples therapy, family therapy, and individual work with adolescents and adults. She works with people to identify problems, help them to minimize the influence these problems have on their life, and to develop new ways of experiencing their world.

Dr. D'Ari's professional background involves extensive training in many models of family therapy, mostly recently in narrative therapy with Michael White. Her advanced training in couple therapy has been with John Gottman, Ph.D. and in Emotion Focused Therapy with Susan Johnson, Ph.D. She has been an AAMFT Approved Supervisor since 1987 and has provided training, supervision, and consultation to interns and therapists in various setting.

Dr. D'Ari grew up overseas and learned much about living in cultures unique and different from hers. She moved around frequently and experienced life as part of a family that lived in Europe, Turkey, and Libya.  She has an appreciation for the importance that culture plays in understanding individuals and their relationships. Dr. D'Ari enjoys her work with people from around the world and different parts of the United States. In addition she was on the founding board of Give An Hour, an organization that provides psychotherapy to any individual who has been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and currently provide services to them as a provider

Barbara Palmer Hirsch

Dr. D’Ari is pleased to welcome a talented therapist who is working with her in her practice. Barbara Palmer Hirsch has had thirty years of experience working with families as a family lawyer. She has extensive experience and understanding about the psychological and legal issues that confront divorcing families. Barbara’s therapy training is with couples, families, and individual adolescents and adults. Her couples’ therapy experience is based on her training in the Gottman method and Emotion Focused Therapy.

Barbara has also done training and research in the practice of parent coordination. Her graduate research thesis is on recommended practices in parent coordination and is interested in parent coordination with post divorces families being a part of her practice.

In 2009, Dr. D'Ari was voted Washingtonian Magazine's top therapist in grief counseling and separation and divorce.

Again in 2012, she was voted as one of Washingtonian Magazine’s best mental health professionals in the DC Metro area in the category of Couples Therapy.
